Tiny Magnetic Pets sign to Universal in the Philippines

Dublin electro-poppers Tiny Magnetic Pets have managed to bag themselves a Filipino deal – yes, you read right! – with Universal Records whose roster there also includes The Last Shadow Puppets, Junior Boys, The Prodigy, Belle & Sebastian, Camera Obscura and The Kills.
The band have just released their Return Of The Tiny Magnetic Pets album in Ireland – check out their MySpace for a bunch of tracks – and play live at Zinc, Leixlip (July 25) and The Sugar Club, Dublin (August 20 + Mixmaster Morris and 202s).
Their core members are Paula Gilmer who’s previously shared a stage with The Script and The Prodigy, and Sean Quinn – not the insurance guru – who has previous with The Electric Penguins and The Vivid who included Brian Eno and Robert Fripp among their E.G. Records stablemates.
“Our label here, Psychonavigation, has a distributio deal in the States with Darla who have people like Robin Guthrie from Cocteau Twins on their roster,” Quinn tells Hot Press. “They asked if we wanted to be on one of the CD compilations they send out all over the world, so we gave them our single ‘Girl In A White Dress’. Universal in Manilla heard it and got on to Psychonavigation saying, ‘We’d love to licence the album.’ Hopefully we’ll get over and do a few gigs in the Philippines and see if we can use it to access the rest of the Far Eastern market.”
