It's Raining K-Pop in Singapore!

Kpop used to be an alternative popular culture in Singapore, but with the rise in popularity for Kpop music and also K-dramas, it seems indisputable that the Korean popular cultural and entertainment contents are now more mainstream than alternative.

The past few years have seen many artists holding successful showcases and fan meetings. In fact, for the year 2010, Singapore is practically seeing at least one Korean artist every month, and most of the time, there’re easily three to four artists or idol groups in town in a month.

In the month of July, Lee Min Ho was in Singapore for a product endorsement event. There was also the sundown Festival that saw After School and F.Cuz gracing the Singapore shores in July. August saw CN Blue, BEAST, 4 Minute and SS501 maknae Kim Hyun Jun in Singapore. hen in September, there was even more star-gazing activity for the Kpoppers in Singapore, stars in the forms of ZE:A, Jay Park, G.NA and Oh Ji Ho.

There seems to be no letting up in the months to come as more gigs and events are being announced faster than you can say OMGKPOP! (pun fully intended, haha!)

For October, we have already reported that The DBSK Three Men Unit, JYJ will be having their showcase for their new album, The Beginning. In addition, there is also something big happening on 23rd Oct. It’s the first-ever KPOP Night Concert, which will feature seven hot Korean groups and one night only. The lineup includes Big Bang, Girls’ Generation (SNSD), F.T Island, SHINee, INFINITE, Dae Guk Nam Ah (The Boys of Super Space) and ZE:A. (Sorry, guys, all 8000-over tickets have been sold out!)

Even DBSK Junsu’s twin brother Zuno will be having his showcase cum fan meeting in Singapore soon. That’s on 13th Nov, which, incidentally, is also when the musical Brothers Were Brave will be staging two shows in a day. (Oh boy, even Nanta's in town again too!)

Last but not least, OMGKPOP has just received the press release for another Kpop event in Singapore. The first-ever I Love AsiaPop! Festival will be happening on 4th and 5th Dec 2010, with I Love Korean Pop! happening on 4th, Sat, and I Love Chinese Pop! happening on 5th, Sun.

The I Love Korean Pop! event is actually named the MNET Ultimate Live! and has a very exciting lineup, including 2am, 2pm, MBLAQ (Music Boys Live in Acoustic Quality) and Miss A. There will even be a fifth act (which the organizers say will be announced very soon).

Tickets are priced at S$188 and that’s for four hours of exciting (and hopefully live) music from some of the hottest and most talented idol groups hailing from South Korea. Priority ticketing for OCBC credit and debit cardholders run from 4th to 17th Oct and there is a 10% discount for the first 2,000 tickets for each night. After that, public sales will commence on SISTIC. You can check out their Facebook Page for more details.

Meanwhile, Kpoppers in Singapore should brace themselves (and also arm themselves with part-time jobs or something...) since it can be anticipated that there will be even more news of more Korean artists flying in.
