Mla Bulletin | PNE's Buhawi: "Life on Island is so unlike showbiz"

Like its past two seasons, “Survivor Philippines: Celebrity Edition” is a game filled with schemes, intrigues, mistrust, manipulation, alliances and betrayal, among others.

So does life on an island of Ranong province in Thailand mirror life in showbiz which the celebrity castaways experienced when they were under the limelight?

For Parokya ni Edgar bassist Buhawi Meneses, who was the 3rd Castaway voted out of the show, life on the island is a lot different from showbiz.

“In showbiz you can control everything. Even if you hear negative things about yourself at the end of the day you can go home with your family and friends and you have food! While you can’t treat your stay on the island like showbiz and you can’t be plastic. Life on the island is more focused on survival and the game,” he explained.

Looking back, Buhawi (or Buwi) related that his experience on “Survivor Philippines” was beyond expectation. Watching the last two seasons of “Survivor Philippines,” he admitted that he picked some pointers from those shows. He thought that this would give him an edge over the competition only to find out he was mistaken.

“We were warned that since it was a celebrity edition, they were going to give us a hard time and they were true to their word. We had a hard time looking for food and life was very hard,” he recalled.

According to Buwi, his sense of adventure prepared him for the unexpected on the island. The various tips from members of Parokya ni Edgar also boosted his competitiveness. Unfortunately, even if he became the leader of the Magan tribe, his stay was short-lived.

Buwi is excited about his return to Parokya ni Edgar because they have a new album, “Middle-Aged Juvenile Novelty Pop Rockers.”

Parokya ni Edgar’s newest album under Universal records features 15 tracks including the carrier single “Paki-usap Lang (Lasingin Nyo Ako).” Other songs in the album are “Original Song,” “One Hit Combo,” “Orange,” “Red,” “Walong Baso,” “Pangarap Lang Kita,” “Ok Lang Ako,” and “Lolo Bye.”

Going back to basics, Buwi pointed out, sets their album apart from their past albums. Lead vocalist and PNE front man Chito Miranda described, “We missed the band sound of the ’90s which was old school. Our album cover art was inspired by the Teenage Ninja Turtles from the ’90s. The songs were also about friendship, love and our drinking sessions.”
